Colorado Access Choice is a new health insurance company entering Colorado’s individual and family health insurance market for 2027 coverage. Colorado Access is a Colorado-based nonprofit health plan that has served Colorado communities for more than 30 years. The organization is best known for administering Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) coverage throughout the state. For 2027, Colorado Access is expanding into the individual and family market through a new product called Colorado Access Choice.
Who Might Consider Colorado Access Choice?
At this point, it’s still early. Plan designs, provider networks, premiums, and prescription formularies will ultimately determine whether Colorado Access Choice is a good fit for any particular household.
There are a few groups of consumers who may want to take a close look at the new carrier during Open Enrollment:
- People transitioning from Medicaid or CHP+
- Consumers who prefer working with a Colorado-based nonprofit organization
- Individuals and families looking for additional marketplace options
As with any health insurance plan, the most important factors are usually your doctors, hospitals, prescriptions, and total expected costs rather than the carrier name alone. Every new carrier enters the market with a lot of questions. Until final rates, provider networks, prescription coverage, and member experience become available, there is no way to know exactly how Colorado Access Choice will stack up against established carriers. For many consumers, Colorado Access Choice will simply become another option to compare.
Additional competition in the Colorado marketplace as a positive development. More carrier options can create more choices for consumers and may help keep premiums competitive.Colorado Access also brings decades of experience serving Colorado residents and working with local providers. Whether that translates into a strong marketplace offering remains to be seen, but it certainly makes them a carrier worth watching for 2027.
