In 2005, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado launched Tonik, three simple, affordable and comprehensive individual PPO plans with a quick online application designed specifically for uninsured 20-somethings.
So far, Tonik has done very well – in fact, 60 percent of Tonik applicants were previously uninsured, and 75 percent of Tonik applicants are under age 35, so Tonik is doing a great job of connecting with the 200,000+ uninsured 19-29-year-olds in Colorado . Plus, two out of three applications are instantly underwritten and ID cards can be printed on the spot.
Anthem is announcing the first rate action for their Tonik health insurance plans in Colorado , effective February 1, 2007. The overall average rate change for Colorado Tonik members will range from a decrease of 8.4 percent to an increase of 26.7 percent. These rate changes are based on the plan the member is enrolled in (Thrill Seeker, Part-time Daredevil or Calculated Risk Taker) and the member’s age, gender and physical address. Also, please note that Colorado Tonik plans now have four rating areas, which are the same as the rating areas recently announced for our other individual products.
Anthem is also introducing new rating tiers for Tonik (+25, +50, +75, +100). This is great news, because it will allow them to accept more members. Plus, don’t forget Tonik currently has a six-month rate guarantee. Make sure you get your application submitted on time to request a January 31, 2007 effective date at the latest to get the old rates. You can get information and apply online using the Tonik website.
