End of an Era

September 16, 2006 By Jay Norris

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado has come out with new non-group health insurance applications.  On the previous applications, they only requested medical history information from the previous 5 years.  This week, they increased that amount of time to 10 years “so the underwriting department can appropriately assess risk for certain medical conditions.”  Now, this pretty much falls in-line with most other health insurance companies in Colorado.

I guess this is the end of an era when we could have somebody that had cancer 6 years ago and still get them approved for an individual/ family policy.  If you’re in a situation like this, where an application asking about just the past 5 years would be helpful, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will still be accepting the old applications until November 30, 2006.
