The Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation and Anthem employees donated $1.6 million in 2008 to a wide range of organizations dedicated to improving health and wellness in Colorado. One of the recipients was the Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved (CCMU). CCMU works tirelessly to be an advocate for people in Colorado who are without health insurance or realistic access to health care. CCMU volunteers reach out to families with children who may be eligible for public health insurance programs like Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) or Medicaid, to help them submit applications and navigate the cometimes confusing enrollment process. The Coalition is working towards an abmitious goal of getting all children in Colorado insured by 2010.
Another recipient of money from Anthem and Anthem employees was Fit4Colorado. The public action campaign, created by CBS4 and America on the Move, works to encourage Coloradans to make small lifestyle changes to improve their overall health. Colorado is currently the slimmest state in the US, and efforts by organizations like Fit4Colorado will help us maintain that distinction.
Of the $1.6 million that was donated, $430,000 came directly from Anthem employees in Colorado, and the rest came from the Anthem Foundation and Anthem’s matching gift program. We’re proud to work with Anthem, and glad to see that they are supporting programs created to improve the health of Colorado residents.
