United Healthcare has just made some big changes to their individual/family health insurance plans in Colorado. Some of the best improvements are:
- More flexible underwriting, including a height and weight chart with expanded limits.
- A first-day wellness benefit.
- More deductible options
United Healthcare was already one of our favorites for underwriting on impaired risk cases. But with the addition of the standard II risk class, they’re now accepting a whole new group of people they would have previously declined.
They’ve also made changes to their maternity benefit and prescription drug coverage options, allowing clients to better customize their health insurance coverage.
With the changes to the health insurance plans in Colorado also came a new rate grid. United is now calculating rates based on a 5 digit zip code instead of the first 3 digits. Based on our calculations, the quoting rates for new clients seems to be about 25% lower on average throughout Colorado. Places where the rates seem to be the most competitive is in the Denver metro area and Fort Collins.
