With all of the talk and opinions about President Bush’s State of the Union Address tonight, it almost seems like it’s already happened. In a nutshell, the president’s plan is to give tax breaks to people who buy modestly priced plans out of their own pockets and to cover the cost of those breaks by establishing a new tax on a portion of higher-priced coverage that some workers receive from their employers.
President Bush is heading off plans by many in the new democratically elected congress to change the way our country’s health care system works. Using the widely accepted method of conducting a cencus, 46 million people in this country are uninsured and around 700,000 people in Colorado have no health insurance at any given time.
While I’ve seen better plans and I must agree with those who say it won’t work, atleast this administration is finally giving it some thought. My main problem with it so far is that it doesn’t help those people with pre-existing conditions at all. But I guess we’ll have to wait until he has actually given his speech to form a solid opinion of what he said…….
