President Signs HSA Bill – What Do You Think?

December 21, 2006 By Jay Norris

President Bush signed the Health Opportunity Empowerment Act of 2006 yesterday, enhancing possible tax relief to those with an HSA.  According to Treasury Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy Eric Solomon, the new bill “makes it easier for participants to put money aside for their personal health care”.  What do you think?

“As soon as I’m able to afford health insurance, I think an HSA sounds like the way to go” -Cliff Gaines; Commerce City, Colorado

“And people say he only cares about the upper class.  This is a great opportunity for everybody to lower their taxable income by shifting extra money into tax sheltered accounts.”  -Jacques Molyneux; Cherry Creek, Colorado

“Well, I’ve got a very creative accountant and I hardly pay any taxes already.  If I could use it to pay for my botox and pedicures, that would be good news.”  -Liz Hallowell; Aspen, Colorado

“Once I don’t need that extra money to feed my kids, I’m definitely going to put it in a health savings account.”  -Roger Haskell; Longmont, Colorado
