David Williams did an excellent job with the most recent Health Wonk Review, hosted at his Health Business Blog. There are lots of great articles about a wide range of healthcare policy topics, so be sure to check it out. One of my favorite posts in this edition comes from Wright on Health. Brad Wright explains how direct-to-patient healthcare clinics can be a good solution for people who are uninsured and need access to affordable healthcare. He also notes that there may be a significant number of families who find themselves just above the income limit for receiving subsidies in the health insurance exchanges, but at the same time they may lose their employer-sponsored health insurance (some small businesses may be more likely to discontinue group health insurance once individual plans are guaranteed issue and subsidized for low and middle income families). Brad points out that these families might find that cash clinics provide a good option for preventive and acute care at much more affordable rates than traditional healthcare provider setups.
