Hank Stern hosted the Post-Turkey Day Health Wonk Review this week at InsureBlog, and you don’t want to miss it. There’s a great post from Roy Poses, looking at how Texas hospital leaders handled the Ebola crisis, and concluding that the interests of hospital management and public health are not always aligned.
And my HealthInsurance.org colleague Andrew Sprung has an excellent article about the need to shop around during open enrollment instead of auto-renewing, illustrated with an example of a family whose price will jump considerably if they renew their current plan. Competition is excellent – the more the better, all around. But it does create some confusion when it’s time to renew, since carriers will constantly be trying to undercut one another in terms of premiums. In short – don’t auto-renew! Shop around instead, and seek out free help from a broker or navigator if you need it.
